as per the recommendations of several friends, I purchased the Golden Compass books. they arrived in a less than timely manner (screw amazon...they can bite my tuckus).

I have held off reading them now, because I hear there is a movie coming out. I am one of those rare people that like to watch the movie before reading a book. because the book is almost always better and I hate to dislike a perfectly good movie because it's "not like the book".

that movie better come out soon, damn it. I want to read these books!

alright, I will fess up. I read just a little of the book. but I stopped.

but I do have a question - what's the point of taking this meme to see what kind of daemon I have if they can just change shape?

Good question.

Maybe it's not so much the shape as it is the personality? Dunno. Haven't read the books, but hope to... after the movie comes out.

There is a point, butyou have to read the books to find out what it is. No giveaways here!

Some of my favorite books ever. And look, we're both snow leopards. Lutheus says hello.

BRILLIANT books. Dazzlingly brave and creative and well-crafted.

Here's the problem with waiting until the movie comes out: most people, after they finish the first book, are in excruciating agony until they begin reading the second book, and likewise between the second and third. So yeah, you could wait until the first movie comes out to read the first book, but then you're pretty much gonna need to read the other two (instead of doing anything else for the next few days) immediately or face unbearable withdrawal and suspense.

ahh, yes. I anticipated that. I do, in fact, have all three books, and expect to not be able to resist the shiny, red, jolly, candy like temptation of the next in the series. I'm ok with that.

the goal is to not automatically hate the movie. :-)

(I don't know if I can hold off much longer! I hope that movie comes soon!)

Editorial about Amazon....THEY SUCK!

You can cancel an order before it goes into "Processed" Status....they dont TELL you that it goes into "Processed" status immediately after you submit the order....LITERALLY. I decided I didnt want a book 5 minutes after I ordered it, and they wouldn't let me remove or cancel the order. I bitched and complained enough for them to give me a full refund and pay the shipping for the return of all the books.

Not to mention they moved their call center to India. I work FOR a Call Center. I think it sucks that we have people that are looking for work, and they go and ship it over seas!

I have never bought from them sense that happened and have recommended that if people want a book, check out Borders or B&N...They will order anything you want, and you wont have to pay the shipping.

OK...ending rant.

agreed. I just like ordering things online. I use the amazon wishlist to keep track of my movie/book/cd lists.

I need to find another online store.
