I picked up a large package of ground beef from costco a while ago and portioned it out and froze it. now I have a recipe that calls for 1 pound.
how do I figure out a pound of ground beef without a scale? what does one pound look like?
ya, completely random.

Make note of the weight (remember that at least 30 lbs are the bowl, I'm sure). Weigh yourself holding the same bowl with some of the meat in it. Add and remove meat until you're about a pound heavier.
And in the future, when you buy bulk ground meat, freeze it in packages about a pound each (since most recipes call for 1 or 2 lbs of meat). Don't you remember having to do this for mom whenever it was grocery day? I sure do. She would buy the best ground beef and some of the cheapest, then do 1/2 lb of each in a ziploc to freeze. I remember asking her how I was supposed to know how much a pound is and she said "Misty, just estimate it. It doesn't have to be perfect.". I'm such a geek. :-)
