I thought about the scale thing,but I don't have one at all.

and I usually portion my meat like that. (I remember doing it as a kid). but I the last time i packed them I had to rush. I think I packaged them in 1/2 lb increments. not sure. cannot remember. and no scale to check. thus the problem.
