I had a great time last night MCing for DCShorts! Micheal and Miss Nora were there, which is always a special treat seeing them. Jon and Alex and all the folks running the event were great. I absolutely ~love~ Jon. he was cracking me up all night.
I spent the evening talking to directors and filmmakers and the like. it was great fun discussing the resurgence of vaudeville and variety entertainment (it never really went away, but now more people are noticing it again). there were directors from all over the world. the ones from NY were talking about coney island, yet strangely didn't know about the re-development and the loss of the classic Americana. (which surprised me).
the party was on a roof in the Penn Quarter, and the wind was random. I was hired to eat fire and MC with a few little sideshow bits mixed in. with be wind being a bit wonky, I opted not to do my choreographed Fire Eating Doll piece (as damn cute as it is) and instead do a quick and simple bit with talking. that way I could stall till the wind died down if need be. the tongue transfer went fine, the retention worked (which surprised me) and a few swallows went down right. I had one fire kiss on my nose and lip, which this morning feels a little tender.
spending all night on my feet, I ache wicked fierce today. but I have to confess, I had a wonderful time! a few more of these and I will be ready for Hollywood. :-)
right now, as I type this, Squirrelly is snoring, yes snoring, next to me. his cuddly cuteness is inspiring me to stay home even though I have a few errands to run. it will take a great test of will to get out of the house today.
oooooooooooorrrrrr the lure of the Pumpkin spice latte at starbucks!!!! (I have been informed that they have arrived!!!!)
