in the midst of all the stuff I'm working on today, Ash decides lap time is the most important thing in the world. not so bad, but his claws have gotten sharp again, which means it's time to clip them.

while looking in my bathroom closet for the kitty towel, I suddenly smelled nail polish. I search the shelf I was tinkering on, and found nothing. I look down, and found the culprit.

a bottle of black sparkly nail polish fell off the shelf and landed on the (very narrow) edge of an upright mirror I've been planing on hanging up in the hallway. all around was soft, yielding places to land, but my aim was too good.

the resulting puddle was at least 9 inches long, and black as night.

*freak out.*

I grab the bottle of nail polish remover, knowing it will probably melt the carpet, and pour a generous amount, and start mopping.

in my career as a decorative painter, I have had a total of 3 spills. all of them cleaned up perfectly. I once dumped 2 different color quarts in the lobby of the Ritz-Carlton where each square foot of carpet costs $190. guests were tromping through the spill, hotel staff were yelling at me, I'm mentally calculating how much it was going to cost me...

that was nothing compared to this.

still, determination, perseverance, a lot of chemicals, and a quick trip to the internet, and I think I got it down to a manageable shadow.

it's mostly just the roots. any success was from parting the rug, and scrubbing the carpet foundation. I hope I never have to do this again.

as I am typing this, high on acetone and isopropyl alcohol, under a kitty with sharp claws.
